Best secures position at the University of Missouri at Kansas City
Rebecca Best will begin a position as an Assistant Professor in Political Science at the University of Missouri at Kansas City in August of 2012. She will teach courses on terrorism, civil war, conflict in the Middle East, and international relations. Her dissertation, titled Negotiation in the Shadow of an Extremist Threat, formalizes the effect of a factionalized insurgency on the bargaining process between the insurgency and its target state, incorporating a formal model, experimental data, and a case study of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. She has co-authored a piece in the International Studies Association Compendium and presented papers at annual meetings of the Peace Science Society, International Studies Association, and Midwest Political Science Association. Her dissertation committee is Navin Bapat (chair), Mark Crescenzi, Stephen Gent, Georg Vanberg, and Lars Schoultz.
