UNC Political Science congratulates Timothy Ryan and Marc Hetherington for their latest publication in Science Advances! The article, “Counter-stereotypical messaging and partisan cues: Moving the needle on vaccines in a polarized United States,” is coauthored with an interdisciplinary team that includes this dynamic duo. The research examines what messages persuade people to get vaccinated against Covid. Their study found that a pro-vaccine appeal from Donald Trump enticed approximately 104,000 people to get their first Covid shots—at the remarkably low cost of about $1 per person.
